CYBERSECURITY / NEWS & ANALYSIS
GPT-6 Cyber.
A stronger hand for defenders.
OpenAI’s new cybersecurity model points toward a practical Super Intelligence (SI) dividend: better tools for the people protecting the software we all rely on.

A better tool for the builders.
The most useful story about Super Intelligence (SI) is often the least theatrical: people getting better tools to do important work. For cybersecurity, that means giving software maintainers and security teams more help investigating problems—and more room to put them right.
OpenAI’s GPT-6 Cyber announcement offers encouraging evidence. The company reports an ExploitGym score of 48.5%, versus 32.1% for GPT-5.6 Cyber. That test measures exploitation of specified vulnerabilities, not an ASIndex score or a universal measure of defense.
Just as important, OpenAI reports that the model respected scope in 99.93% of its honeypot tests without a deployment prompt, and 100% with one. Those are evaluation results, not a guarantee—but they pair stronger capability with better adherence to researchers’ boundaries.
Progress that reaches everyday software.
OpenAI says GPT-6 Cyber identified 81 previously unknown, high-severity Firefox vulnerabilities and helped propose patches. Mozilla’s Firefox 159 advisory, published October 27, independently documents shipped security fixes and credits OpenAI researcher Amy Burnett on numerous entries. It does not establish that every reported finding is fixed.
That is the outcome worth rooting for: research translated into maintenance people can actually receive. A benchmark can show promise; a repaired browser brings the benefit closer to someone opening a bank statement, finishing schoolwork or running a small business.
A useful American advantage.
The wider opportunity reaches beyond large technology companies. In September, OpenAI committed $1 billion to Daybreak for Frontline Defenders, covering subsidized access, training, support and partnerships. Its U.S. priorities include utilities, local governments, community banks and open-source maintainers. That is a commitment to support, not a claim that the entire amount has already been delivered.
Our view: American leadership becomes more valuable when technical advances strengthen the institutions and services people use daily. The opportunity is not simply to build impressive models. It is to help more defenders turn careful investigation into useful repairs.
A practical next step.
GPT-6 Cyber initially reaches selected, approved Daybreak Red customers through the application programming interface (API) and Codex; broader Red access is planned, according to OpenAI. This is a specialist rollout, not general ChatGPT availability.
Better tools. Clearer boundaries. More opportunities to make software dependable. That is a constructive direction for SI—and a very good reason to pay attention.
